{Stairway Designs: Combining Utility and Beauty
Staircases are essential in construction, serving as both a essential feature and a design statement. With so many styles to choose from, stairs can be customised to meet the requirements and styles of any space. Whether you focus on utility or aesthetics, there’s a stairway design that can meet your needs.
{U-Shaped Stairway Designs: Perfect for Grand Homes
This style of staircase features two flights of steps connected by a landing that turns 180 degrees. This option is often found in grand homes or office spaces with plentiful upward room. Despite their impressive look, U-shaped stairs have a space-saving design that optimises space. The landing is a practical feature that can also improve the stairway design’s aesthetic appeal. This option is linked to opulence and is a popular choice in luxurious or rustic homes.
{Why Curved Staircases Are a Design Feature
Curved stairs are defined by their sophisticated, flowing lines that embody sophistication. Curved staircases are simpler to navigate than Spiral ones, thanks to their gradual design. This option is frequently used in luxurious homes, traditional sites, or upscale hotels to make a dramatic statement. Building Curved stairs demands expert craftsmanship and is often more costly than other designs. However, the finished staircase is a magnificent design detail that elevates the look of any room.
{Floating Staircases: A Sleek Design
Floating stairs, also known as minimalist stairs, are a modern and clean design that creates the effect of treads "floating" in mid-air. These stairs achieve their hovering look by being secured to a hidden support, avoiding visible elements. Floating staircases are commonly used in modern interiors to create a open feel. Floating stairway designs create a clean canvas, allowing other features, like lighting, to take centre stage. While stunning, Floating stairway designs require meticulous engineering to ensure they are safe and secure.
{Spiral Stairs: A Modern Design
Spiral stairway designs are known for their compact, circular design with a helical column. This design is great for tiny spaces, like outdoor areas, where standard steps are bulky. Spiral stairs are available in materials like wood, providing limitless aesthetic flexibility. While they are space-efficient, they can be more tricky to climb, especially for those carrying large items. However, their distinctive design makes them a favourite option for adding visual interest to interiors.
{Bifurcated Stairs: Ideal for Elegant Spaces
This option of staircase is marked by its harmonious design, typically used in mansions. This design features a central flight of treads that splits into two matching flights at a landing, usually turning in contrasting angles. Bifurcated stairway designs are celebrated for their imposing look, making them great for formal spaces. The layout provides a balanced and harmonious aesthetic, often decorated with decorative balustrades or chandeliers. While they require substantial space and budget, Bifurcated staircases are a enduring sign of sophistication.
{Staircases: A Key to Revealing Stylish Creativity
Stairway designs are a powerful reminder of how construction can combine utility with aesthetic expression. From compact Spiral designs to grand Bifurcated styles, stairway designs offer countless possibilities to elevate any space. No matter the style, stairway designs will continue to be a defining feature of how we experience and use spaces.
Newcastle Council tackles dangerous staircases
More than 3,000 homes and 57 blocks of flats with potentially dangerous staircases have been identified by Newcastle City Council.
The ‘Ranch’ style staircase design, which features horizontal guarding, is classified as a category one hazard under the Housing Health and Safety Rating System.
Concerns about the staircases were raised last year, with residents warning that children use them as ladders or try to climb between the horizontal boarding.
